The Wolf, the Eagle, and the Dragon

The Wolf, the Eagle, and the spirit of the Dragon. These creatures are represented throughout the Bushido dojo… Only a few creatures in the animal kingdom mate for life. Among them are the wolf and the eagle. Together, they represent loyalty, honor, and kinship above all things. The focus and tenacity of the eagle and the cunning and fierceness of the wolf embody the spirit and wisdom of the dragon. Bushido is characterized by its code and is symbolized within these creatures. Kinship is a powerful aspect of human nature that must be built upon the mutual commitment of kindred spirits. Should a member of your pack break the vows that embody that commitment, you must sever the bond for the sake of the pack.

The Sociopath Next Door

How to defend yourself from a Sociopath? If you take the concept of self-defense seriously, you must consider all threats that might cause you harm. As a martial arts practitioner and instructor in a small community, I can get to know my students and the parents of my students on a personal level. By doing so, I’ve had an opportunity to recognize how many people and families have been dramatically affected by a sociopath in their lives. So, I thought I would write this article on how to recognize a sociopath and defend yourself against one. Images of some crazed serial killer often come to mind when you hear the word sociopath. Therefore, people will often overlook the presence of a true sociopath because they

Your Mind is Valuable!

Your mind is valuable! It is so valuable that the wealthy elites and powerful factions in Government will go to any length and spare no expense to purchase your Mental Real Estate. They feel it is worth more to them than it is to you. Bushido and the art of self-defense is about defending your whole self from attack, not merely blocking a punch from an aggressive adversary! The Art of Self-Defense is centuries old and evolved to include all aspects of self, mind, body, and spirit. This is why some of the most incredible wisdom and greatest philosophers were warriors: Socrates, Marcus Aurelius, Sun Tzu, Miyamoto Musashi, and many more. For many, the art of war evolved into a path towards enlightenment. The theory

America is at War!

America is at war! Many are unaware of this war because it is not being waged in a conventional manner that we typically recognize. War, unfortunately, is a part of human nature. Yet, centuries of warfare have taught that spears, guns, and even bombs are not the most effective and efficient way to win a war. Social media opened the eyes of those who would go to war against us and gave them the most potent and effective tool to wage war. This tool could devastate cities, as seen in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago, and many other cities, yet leave little or no trace of who perpetrated the attack. It is quite brilliant! A few wealthy individuals have realized that if they can

BLACK BELTS

BLACK BELTS… The percentage of people that begin their Japanese Martial Arts practice and reach their 1st Degree Black Belt is about 2%. In other words, about two of every 100 students who begin their journey will make Black Belt. No one in any legitimate karate school will likely achieve Black Belt in less than eight years. It is much like getting a master’s degree in college. My dojo has been open since 2016. I have had two students reach the level of brown belt. No one has yet made Black Belt at my dojo. It isn’t easy, and it takes hard work and dedication. Most dojos set their own standards for the requirements for each belt at their school. But in most cases, when

Karate Works!

Karate Works! (See video below) I love this demonstration by Jesse Enkamp! Karate is a phenomenal self-defense art that was designed for a lifetime. Yet, most karate practitioners have no idea that what they’ve been taught was intended for five- and six-year-olds in a Japanese PE class! To understand this, you would have to understand Japanese history. The best movie depicting this truth was the movie starring Tom Cruise, called “The Last Samurai.” The Meiji Restoration of 1867 was a time in Japanese history when martial arts as a practice of war was outlawed. However due to some great negotiation by karate, aikido, and judo founders with the emperor, they negotiated a way to continue training, but with the agreement that it had to be

Real Karate

Forget Cobra Kai, The Karate Kid, Modern Dojos, MMA, and the rest regarding what you think you know about Real Karate! A little-known secret about Japanese History and how Karate changed in 1867 from Kobudo (Old Way of War) to Gendai budō (Moden Way of War). Kobudo, including Karate (Empty Hand), developed over several thousand years into the most sophisticated fighting system the world has ever known. However, in 1867, there was a battle between old and new. The Emperor won and outlawed the old. Since no American trained in Japan until after World War II, few realized they were learning a watered-down version of Karate designed to be taught in Japanese PE classes to five and six-year-olds. They brought what they learned back to

A Parents Job

I Love the US Constitution. However, it is NOT the US Constitution that keeps America strong. It is our VALUES that keep us strong. Most would agree that our country, in recent years, has been in decline. Yet, the words of the US Constitution have not changed or faltered. All that has changed are our American values. Therefore, the solution to our woes is to instill, and rein-still where necessary, those values that made us great. Evil people will either find loopholes to circumvent the US Constitution, or they will misrepresent the Constitution to use it against the people for personal gain. No time in history demonstrates this more than what we are experiencing now. The solution must come from the parents, from cities large

Meditation for Kids

Recently, I received a photo of one of my eleven-year-old students from a concerned grandmother. She was concerned because she was babysitting and lost track of him momentarily. She looked all over the house, and even outside, but it wasn’t until she looked up that she found him… Where? Not sitting around playing video games, watching TV, or on social media… She found him wearing his uniform and quietly meditating in a tree! Watching my students make powerful changes in the foundation of their lives brings me great joy!
